His name came to me on a song.
I was six months pregnant, and my son still had no name. I was in a season of pain, so I stepped away and did the only thing I knew to do: I moved through it in my body, with Holy Spirit. That is the season LGHTBDY became what it is.
At my best friend’s house, the Lord led me to a Lauryn Hill album and a song called “To Zion.” And the Lord said, that is his name.
Zion is the stronghold David took, and the mountain God chose for Himself. “For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.” (Psalm 132:13) My son carries the name of the place where God chooses to dwell.
He was born on February 12th, Super Bowl Sunday, still in the sac. The water had to be broken before his first breath. When I sat with his Portrait, his birth date opened to Song of Solomon 2:12: “the time of the singing of birds is come.” A boy named by a song, born on the verse of singing.
I knew his story. I didn’t know what was written in it.
The children coming in now are discerning. Prophetic. Ready long before we were. They need a mother who knows who they are, and who leads them from wholeness.
You were there for your child’s story too. You know the hour, the place, the name you almost chose instead. Bring all of it. I will trace it through Scripture and the ancient Hebrew and hand it back to you: what God wrote over your child, in words you can pray, decree, and raise them by.
